Dreamcast TEST GD-ROM "GD Drive repear program ver 0.1" en liberté

Laurent C. de notre beau forum et Darcagn, du forum assemblergames, ont chacun récupéré un GD-rom un peu particulier. Ce dernier en a dégagé les fichiers que contient le Dreamcast TEST GD-ROM "GD Drive repear program ver 0.1" (c'est son nom).

Le travail de Darcagn sur le GD-rom a été fructueux. En effet les deux GDI que contient le support ont pu être extraits : DCCheckerRepair et GDDriveRepair. Leurs noms laissent penser que ces applications permettraient la réparation (ou du moins le diagnostique de panne) sur la console pour la première et plus précisément la lecteur GD-Rom pour la seconde. 

Voici le copié-collé du readme, traduit du japonais, contenu dans GDDriveRepair en lien de téléchargement ci-après :

How to operate the control pad
On the direction key: Menu up
Down arrow key down: menu down
A button: decision
B button: Cancel (After each check is completed, after displaying the result, wait for the B button to be pressed)

Check description
* 1) Select to measure C1 errors using C1 checker. It is mainly used for checking the media.
You can interrupt it by opening the lid of the drive.
Pass / fail judgment
It is judged by the fact that the LED of C1 checker is not lit up. The LED lights up when an error occurs.

* 2) Use the internal function of the drive to measure the C1 error. Used to check the media itself, the drive itself.
You can interrupt it by opening the lid of the drive.
After the end of the measurement, it will sound a tone tone for 5 seconds to inform you that it ended.
Pass / fail judgment
If the C1 error value is 100 or more and the C1 error accumulation value is 2400 or more, it is an error.
Check End (OK) or Check End (NG) is displayed on the screen.
(OK) is green, (NG) is red, the others are red.

* 3) Seek 10 times between 39 minutes 58 seconds <-> 77 minutes 45 seconds,
Display maximum, minimum, and average of seek time. (GD only program)
Pass / fail judgment
An error occurs when the average of round-trip seek times is greater than 250 msec.
On the screen, 1/3 Seek Check End (OK) or 1/3 Seek Check End (NG) is displayed.
(OK) is green, (NG) is red, the others are red.

* 4) When selecting the menu, seek operation will be performed after setting as below.
1. Setting the start position
2. Setting the end position
3. After entering the seek count or entering the continuous seek time, enter the value
4. Set whether to terminate if an error occurs or to continue checking

When 0 is entered for either the start position or end position Default position
(Start 10 minutes 2 seconds, end 120 minutes).
Also, if you set 0 for the seek count and continuous seek time, seek infinitely.
If you press the B button on the control pad during an infinite number of seeks, the seek will end.
After the check is completed, the maximum, minimum and average of seek time are displayed.
In addition, in the mode in which checking is continued when an error occurs,
If there is an error, the error contents are displayed.

* 5) Select this for picking severe behavior.
When the menu is selected, seek operation is performed after setting as below.
1. Setting the start position
2. Setting the end position
3. After entering the seek count or entering the continuous seek time, enter the value
4. Set whether to terminate if an error occurs or to continue checking

When 0 is entered for either the start position or end position Default position
(Start 110 minutes, end 110 minutes + 100 sectors).
Also, if you set 0 for the seek count and continuous seek time, seek infinitely.
If you press the B button on the control pad during infinite seeking, the seek will end.
After the check is completed, the maximum, minimum and average of seek time are displayed.
In addition, in the mode in which checking is continued when an error occurs,

* 6) Seek infinitely to random positions.
When the menu is selected, seek operation is performed after setting as below.
1. Enter whether to enter the seek count or enter the continuous seek time, then enter the value
2. Set whether to terminate if an error occurs or to continue checking

Also, if you set 0 for the seek count and continuous seek time, seek infinitely.
If you press the B button on the control pad during seeking, the seek will end.
In addition, in the mode in which checking is continued when an error occurs,

When entering the start and end positions, if you specify a position that is not on the disc
Illegal FAD Data and enter it on the screen. Press pad B and select Menu

Il ne s'agit pas de la première diffusion de disque DCCheckerRepair. Celui-ci est du même genre que les précédents.
L'archive GDDriveRepair contient des dossiers dans sa partie haute densité hébergeant une autre version différente de DC Checker, mais Darcagn 'a pas réussi à les utiliser pour le moment.

ça c'est de la news !!! j'ai hâte de tester ces deux disques

EDIT : Mauvaise surprise, les images disques sont au format Gdi, je ne pourrais pas les tester

Wombat avait récupérer l année passé une dreamcast de dev possédant exactement le même programme que le disc . Elle a été envoyée à quelqu un qui copiera le bios. La dreamcast ne permettait que de faire le check.

Nous avions pensé au dernier contrôle des build lors de l usinage.

Des studio comme EDEN auraient utilisé cette dreamcast.

J ai pu me procurer 10 disc du style l année passé. Je pensais tombé sur des jeux "Silver " Ce fut une chouette surprise que de découvrir leurs contenu. Si je ne dis pas de bêtises on retrouve des photos de sonic r saturn et de shenmue saturn en fouillant les fichiers ( voire un vieux article sur shenmue master )

J ai essayé de finir le long procédé d'analyse d un jeux. J ai abandonné après 7 heures de temps . A mon avis, il faut compter 12 h

J ai avancé par supposition pour comprendre l utilité du disc. Donc il s agit d une simple hypothèse.

Donc nous avons la création du jeux sur dev kit. Durant le développement du jeux, entre 300 - 500 beta du titres vont aller alimenter les différents acteurs de l industrie ( pour l interne , pour sega , pour l éditeurs, pour les manifestations , pour les journalistes ect)

Un jeux sortira du dev kit au format beta et sera gravé via le disc writter. Théoriquement cette beta sera un master ( l original ) de la version actuelle du jeux.

Cette fameuse beta va être transmise à l éditeurs afin qu' elle passe en duplication. On utilise le très rare dreamcast duplicator pour ça ( une sorte de dev kit )

Ces duplicata vont être envoyé à gauche et à droite.

Je pense que le disc servait à analyser le master afin de voire si il fut bien gravé depuis le dev kit avant de le dupliquer

Des explications à prendre avec des pincettes...

Je penses que le disc test gdr etait employé par les dev.

Le disc drive repear ou le disc drive checker par les SAV puisqu' ils analyses les composants de ta dreamcast ( https://youtu.be/_gvtSuZhJ_8 )

La dreamcast checker c1/c2 ( nom comme ca ) doit posséder un bios particulier. Elle ne permet pas de jouer à des jeux....
